NEMA 12 enclosures offer additional protection against dust, dirt, and dripping non-corrosive liquids, making them better suited for industrial facilities where airborne contaminants or oil drips are present. NEMA 1 enclosures are designed strictly for indoor use, protecting against personnel contact and falling dirt. NEMA 3 enclosures are built for outdoor or semi-exposed environments and must withstand rain, sleet, and windblown dust.
